How to power up your body's
innate immune strength

We know that this may feel like a hopeless and fearful time for many, but we want to assure you there is so much you can do to ensure you, your family, and your community remain healthy and safe. We encourage you to adopt the belief that there is no better time than now to focus on mobilizing your body’s own innate defense mechanisms through science-backed immune strengthening practices.

While we agree that there everyone should be doing their part to avoid infection, like social distancing, staying home, practicing good hygiene and hand washing—there is so much more we can do to support our immune system so that we are more resilient to infection—both now and in the future.

10 ways to boost and

Improve Your Immune System

Eat a nutrient-dense diet

Our immune system relies on nutrient-dense whole foods to function well. Death from infections in the developing world is often not due to the infection itself but the body’s inability to fight it because of nutrient deficiencies. Since more than 90% of Americans are deficient in one or more essential nutrients, we need to focus on improving the quality of our diet. Check out Dr. Mindy’s video on Top 5 Foods that will Boost Viral Immunity.

Intermittent fast

If you’re part of our fasting community, intermittent fasting is most ideal for immunity boosting against viral infections. Dr. Mindy does not recommend going over a 24 hour fast. A 16-24 hour fast will provide you with enough ketones to reduce inflammation, stimulate and repair the gut lining (90% of our immune system is in our intestinal tract) and activate the immune system, without glucose going down too much.

Cut out sugar

Studies have shown that refined sugars can suppress your immune system for hours after ingesting. Limiting starch and sugar will help your immune system function more efficiently and you’ll feel better too.

Lean into polyphenol foods

Polyphenols provide essential antioxidant-packed micronutrients. Double down on prebiotic and probiotic foods that support your microbiome and immunity, like sauerkraut, kimchi, miso, unsweetened yogurt, and kefir.

Drink plenty of fluids

Consuming clean, filtered water supports all your bodies’ functions including the immune system. For most of us that means 8-10 cups of water per day.

Utilize the power of supplements

Dr. Mindy created a great video for her youtube channel called, Reset Your Immune System To Protect Yourself From Viruses. In it she includes some of the essential supplements she takes, like VIVI, ATAK, DV3, Vitamin C (CTV), Echinacea, and Zinc.

Get sufficient sleep

Sleep restores and heals the body. Without adequate sleep, optimal immune function is next to impossible! Get in a better rhythm and head to bed earlier. Aim for seven to eight hours a night.

Get outside

Mild to moderate exercise helps boost the immune system. Try to get outside in natural sunlight for a dose of Vitamin D. Even better if you can put your bare feet on the earth to ground, as grounding neutralizes free radicals in the body and creates a calming effect on the immune system. If you can’t get outside, find workouts and yoga classes online.

Practice meditation, yoga or deep breathing

Data continues to show that high levels of stress increase susceptibility to viral infections. Let us be clear, stress (created from feelings of fear, uncertainty, anger, etc.) is one of the absolute worst things you can do for your immune system. There has never been a better time to learn meditation or enhance your current practice. Box breathing, also known as four-square breathing, is a simple breath practice for calming the immune system. It involves exhaling to a count of four, holding your lungs empty for a four-count, inhaling to a count of four, and holding air in your lungs for a count of four before exhaling and beginning the pattern anew.
